Cake Ball Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cake. Ball. Stuffed. Chocolate. Chip. Cookies.
If your mouth is not watering, it will be when you see the pictures in this post.
Here's the deal... just like in fashion, cars, hair... there are trends in food. A few of the current baking trends are cupcakes (bet you didn't know that), cake balls/pops, stuffing chocolate chip cookies with other sweets and beautifully iced cut out cookies.
Seeing as how I am pretty much a trend setter and was feeling extra trendy this weekend.... I figured I should bake something fantastic...
So I was thinking about the baking trends and..... I'm pretty good at cupcakes but haven't quite mastered that buttercream icing thing, I've already done a few cake ball posts, I just did the Sixlets & chocolate chip cookies post and I am terrible at royal icing... terrible....
Then I realized most cool people are cool because they combine trends... you know like saggy pants AND Polo boxer shorts, Apple Bottom jeans AND boots with the fur, skinny jeans AND a sad, emo facial expression..... you get what I'm saying....
Sooooo... I should combine two baking trends... the very two that I am excellent at... yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!!! And then Cake Ball Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies were born.
And the world was complete.
You will need:
Chocolate Chip Cookie dough (click here to see my recipe). Use 2 cups of chocolate chips rather than 1 cup chips and 1 cup Sixlets (obviously....)
and
Frozen cake balls of any flavor (click here to see cake ball instructions). I dipped mine then put in the freezer for about an hour. They don't have to be frozen solid.
I used red velvet cake balls and scooped them with a melon baller so they were a bit smaller than normal.
First, take a scoop of cookie dough (I use my cookie scoop, probably 2 Tbsp)....
Insert a cake ball.....
Put another scoop on top....
Then form that into a ball.....
Eeeeeeek!!!!!! Bake at 350 for 11-14 minutes. Until just browning on top.
I am in love with these things.... LOVE.
Ok... now wait for it..... wait for it......
(Insert your mouth watering)
I had to fend off these 2 cookie thieves. Darn pests.
Along with being trendy I am also a push over.....
The cookie thieves won.
And then there was a photo shoot....
a short one because I was so dang excited to post this that I only took a one picture..... but here you go!
I have a few ideas about this same recipe so I will be in the kitchen all night seeing if they work.... just could not wait to get this one out there!!!
Happy baking

Found this via the BA Daily blog. All I can say is WOW. These look incredible. If I had better luck with cake pops, I would totally make these tonight. I may attempt them despite my bad luck, because, good lord, how could you not want to eat these.
YUM! Thanks for an awesome idea!
Saw these on BA food blog, too and will make them with my boys. INSANE!
Yay! Glad you like! If you go to my cake ball "tutorial" I talk about a couple of things that make it easier... http://www.sugarderby.com/blog/2011/1/23/cake-balls-pops-and-shots-yes-shots.html
And since they are going inside a cookie they don't have to be perfect! Thats good news :)
I saw these on the BA blog today and can't tell you how excited I am about them! I made red velvet cake balls last valentines day dipped in both dark and white chocolate and found them a bit....lacking....I think that surrounding them in a chocolate chip cookie is the perfect way to jazz them up! Can't wait to try them with some other cake flavors...or perhaps oreo balls in a chocolate cookie? endless possibilities!
endless possibilities is correct!!!! so many things you can do :)... wedding colors in the cake ball, baby shower, sports colors, different flavors.... i've tried a few and red velvet is still my favorite... let me know if you come up with something amazing!!!
Turns out, I picked the worst week in the history of the planet to quit sugar. Everywhere I turn there is something I want to bake! This look AH_maz_ING.
Oh man!!! I wish you well on the "no sugar" but you must try them after that :)
Saw these posted on the weight watchers message boards....yes weight watchers lol!!! Will definitely be making these, but alas, won't be eating ALL of them. I tried cake balls recently -- my friend from kentucky sent me some in the mail! It was the Best Thing Ever so I'm sure its even better inside a cookie!
That's so funny that it was in WW!
Can you give me the link? I would love to see :)
Wow....those look SO dangerous!!!
Thank you so much for the linky love, too! :)
Awesome. My friend posted this on FB from the Bon Apetit blog, and I thank you for providing such lovely instructions, recipes, pictures. . .My guy thanks you as well (I sent him the link and he was drooling over email) - guess I know what I'm doing tonight!
(er, STARTING on cake balls for cookies this weekend!)
;-)
I'm making a batch tonight!! Eat them warm.... Addicting!
Aw wow these look good I am big on very sweet chocolaty food the sweeter the better. I am gonna have to try these thanks for this and put on any more ideas great.
absolutely ingenious! thanks for the idea; they're definitely going to make it into my goodie bags this year!
THIS IS AMAZINGGGG!!!!! At the beginning it took a while and was very troublesome but definitely worth the hassle. These are sooooooo good!!!! However, mine came out bigger than a golf ball and about the size as a baseball. I'm not too sure if that was suppose to happen or not but they are still tasty!!!!!! I love this, I love you, and your fingernail polish!!!!!!
Thank you!!!! You don't know how much flack I've got about that nail polish.... Glad you like it!!!
So I am working on making these for my hubby's bday (tomorrow!) because he loves red velvet cake. So I made his precious red velvet cake and the cake balls have turned out really good. Then I used this chocolate chip cookie recipe word for word and the dough is really wet and sticky and the tester cookies I made were really flat. I even already added an extra 1/4 cup flour and it didn't help. Should I just keep adding more flour or what? I'm lost. I got frustrated and I had to go to work so it is sitting at home now in the fridge waiting to see if I can doctor it up when I get back. Please help me.
OMG disregard that remark. I read over the recipe for at least the 5th time and I suddenly it hit me...I was using a 1/4 cup scoop and was counting scoops as if I had a 1/2 cup. I am such a doofus! As soon as I get home I am fixing that dough and making those cookies! Lol.
Ohhhhh.... I felt so bad! Like, if you lived anywhere near Dallas I was about to bring you some cookies!!!!
Let me know how it goes!
So I was able to fix them and the final product turned out perfect. My husband and everybody else loved them : ) Sorry for the panic lol.
Whew!!! Glad it worked out :)
Tell us more about how you beat those guys off.
I have been waiting for that comment!!!! Hahahah.... I'm changing it... I mean, they are children.
But... Kuddos for that joke :)
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. I've already read through this and the cakeball recipe, I'll be making these soon! They look fantastic.
