I wanna know where tha GOLD at!!!

Ok. ok. ok..... So... St Patrick's Day is right around the corner! And as always, I can not get this video out of my head.... It went viral several years back but it is still by far the funniest of all YouTube sensations...

Please partake in laughter with me.....

"I wanna know where tha GOLD at! Give me tha GOLD!"

Well, kind sir.... I'm gonna give you the gold. Gold Dusted, Rainbow Filled Cake Balls! Eeeeek!

And here is what you do....

As always, use the basic cake ball mix I have showed you 1.5 million times :). LOVE.

Start with a white cake mix and regular food coloring.

Prepare as directed on the box then separate into bowls. I used 6 different colors. I was a smarty pants and looked up the actual layers of a rainbow... it goes purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.

I used the smallest amount of mix for purple and the largest amount for red... because purple will be the smallest amount used and red the largest amount... I hope that makes sense.

I baked them in mini loaf pans....

Love that picture!!!

So.... crumble each loaf into a bowl and add your cream cheese frosting. There is not a set amount of frosting for this gig... because the amount of cake is different for each color. I started with a Tbsp and added a bit more until it was the perfect texture.

So... now you have your basic cake ball mix... times six!

Start with a very small ball of purple....

Then you will add each color (in order of the rainbow if you are OCD like me)....

I flattened the mix out just a bit before I wrapped it around.

Once you have the previous color completely covered you just roll it in your hands to smooth the ball.

Now... you have to be careful not to add too much of each color or your cake ball will be HUGE...

Look at my first one (on the left)... compared to a regular size cake ball!

It was ginormous!!!

So you know... if you have gone back and looked at the cake ball instructions, from this point you refrigerate the cake balls for a while then dip them in candy coating.

I used chocolate. Let the coating dry then dust with Wilton's Gold Pearl Dust.

I used a regular paint brush and dusted the gold on.

Mine started out as cake pops so they were pretty easy to dust.....

Easy to dust but kind of looked TERRIBLE as pops...

probably because gold on sticks does not exist....

I'm sure it would much easier to "mine" if it was on sticks!

Anyways... the photo shoot was not going well and I almost gave up on them but as soon as took them off the sticks things got better!!

So glad I didn't give up on these beauties.

I hope you have a wonderful St Patrick's Day and if you don't feel like making GOLD you can at least make some mini cake pops...

Come on now.... you had to have known that if I was baking, something was going to get miniaturized!

Happy baking!!!!

Very cool. However, you say you were OCD about the colors but you switched the blue and green! Green should be in between yellow and blue, not blue and purple. Well done, even still.

the gold is much easier if you paint it on. just mix the dust with some vanilla and paint it on with a brush

i tried to paint it one... maybe i didn't use enough vanilla? i'll def try harder to make that work next time. would it have made the gold more vibrant?
