Sugar Derby Mobile Launch Party & Grand Opening!!!!!

Come to my party!!!!! And give me a hug and look at my trailer and smile and say how adorable it is!!!!

Please? Please come to my party!?!?!?!

Here's the deal.... I bought this 1958 Traveleze travel trailer and completely gutted it and had it revamped into a cute little vintage shop on wheels!!!

I'll tell you all about it... here....

I know "Sugar Derby" can be a bit confusing.... do I sell stuff? Food? Vintage stuff? What?..... so I will give you a quick explanation.

Sugar Derby blog originated a year and half ago just as a place for me to share my recipes, vintage finds, DIY's, love for miniatures, stuff about my dad, info on The Bomb Fried Pies and obsession with Texas!

I do not sell baked goods! I just show you how to make them and send you many many well wishes!

And then..... I bought this adorable little 1958 Traveleze travel trailer and decided to renovate it to be a sweet little vintage shop on wheels...

where I will sell... vintage housewares; dishes, aprons, lamps, wall decor, records, radios, clocks, etc. A handful of clothes and fist full of vintage cowgirl boots (thanks to Cowgirl Cuties)!

Now, that part isn't too confusing...... until I tell you this.. hahhaha...... I will not sell my own baked goods out of the trailer....

BUT I will sell other peoples'..... (that's confusing right?)..... well, there are some great bakers in Dallas that have commercial kitchens and talent and more patience and time than I do.....

these are the people whose baked goods I will sell out of my trailer! Make sense?

Basically, I don't want to get the licenses and permits to sell food..... but I do want to sell food..... so I will sell other peoples food.... and MY vintage stuff!!!! See?

So inside Sugar Derby Mobile, you will always find amazing vintage stuff for sale.... and you will occassionally find baked goods for sale!!!!

Now about the trailer....

These are her "before" shots.... she would be so embarassed if she knew I was showing you these :)

You can see the original paint peeking through.....

It was so tempting to keep it silver but I really wanted to restore the outside to the original....

so glad I did!!!!!

I only have a few "after" pics because she isn't quite done yet....

but almost.....

Oh and here is the inside.... "before"

yikes!!!!

and the not quite complete but pretty close to... "after"

oh it's so clean and pretty!!!!!

Starting this project was super overwhelming.... the one person that I needed to ask a million questions to, the one person I knew could do all the work... was my dad.

I've never done anything like this... and especially not on my own.

I felt a little lost at first and then I realized..... my dad helped so many people, had so many people that loved him and so many friends that would be more than willing to help me... if I just asked.

And so I did. I asked a lot of them.... I actually tried to ask as many as possible. My dad's best friend, Pat (The Bomb Fried Pies), is the one that found the trailer on Craigslist for me & answered a million of my questions. His good friend, Chris, is the one that went to pick it up for me. His friend, Sus, is the amazing guy that re-did the inside and outside. His friend, David, made my vinyl sign. His friend, Daniel, striped my website and some other lettering for me. His friend, Danny, didn't get to do much with the trailer but he did fix my dad's '46 Coupe while everyone else was helping me do this.

Every single one of these guys has worked along side my dad for years. Touched the same tools as him. Sat behind the same steering wheels... as they all rushed to get cars ready for shows.

He would be proud. And thankful to his friends. I feel like the combination of all of them.... and their love for him... made this trailer what it is.

My dad would be so excited for me. Excited for my new adventure... and help me the whole way.

I miss him so much. Every single day. I started Sugar Derby as a tribute to him... to fill the huge void he left.... and I just want to make sure we remember during the excitement.... he was an amazing dad and friend.

Like I said, Come to my party!!!!! And give me a hug and look at my trailer and smile and say how adorable it is!!!!

And love on your parents..... and everyone else in your life that makes your little light shine.

Love em up good.
